Brazilian Wandering Spiders

Identification
This spider is likely to have hidden in fruit that has been shipped from Central or South America, such as bunches of bananas, so be vigilant when handling fruit originating from those regions. The spider is brown, large (with a leg span of up to 15cm) and will rear up on its hind legs in a defensive posture when threatened.
Our method
If we know where the spider is
- We use a long stick to manoeuvre it into a box.
- We then place that box inside at least one other box to ensure it doesn’t escape.
If we don’t know where the spider is or there are multiple spiders
- The whole house is sealed off, room-by-room, with a heater directed into each.
- Our exterminators monitor the temperature to make sure it doesn’t go above 60°C - if it goes any higher, it can start damaging paint and other elements of the room. 47°C should be enough to kill any spiders in the vicinity.
