A pest emergency is a situation that cannot wait. Rats in the kitchen at 7am with a family about to have breakfast. A wasp nest above a child’s bedroom window. Bed bugs discovered in a hotel room an hour before the next guest checks in. Cockroaches in a restaurant kitchen with a service starting in forty-five minutes. These are not problems that can be booked in for next Tuesday.
JG Pest Control runs an emergency pest service designed for exactly these situations. Same-day callouts are standard across our coverage area. Technicians are locally based, so we can usually reach you within a couple of hours of the booking call. And because we are open every day of the year apart from Christmas Day, including all weekends and bank holidays, our availability when it matters is far broader than most of the industry.
If you are facing a pest emergency right now, call us. A real person will pick up the phone.

What Makes a Pest Problem an Emergency?
A pest situation crosses from routine into emergency when it threatens health, safety, livelihood, food hygiene or property fabric. The clearest examples are rats in occupied living space, wasps near a vulnerable person, bed bugs in commercial accommodation, cockroaches in a food business, biting insects above a bed, and any pest sighting that puts an Environmental Health rating, a CQC inspection or a hotel star rating at risk.
In all of these cases the cost of waiting until the next working day is far higher than the cost of a same-day callout. We are set up to absorb that demand, with technicians on the road every day of the year except Christmas Day.
If your situation has tipped from nuisance to urgent, do not sit on it. Call us.
The Eight Most Common Pest Emergencies We Attend
Over the years a clear pattern has emerged in the kinds of calls that justify an immediate response. The eight situations below account for the bulk of our emergency callouts.
1. Rats inside the property
A rat in a wall cavity is unpleasant. A rat in a kitchen, food store, child’s bedroom or living room is an emergency. Rats carry leptospirosis, salmonella and a range of secondary parasites, and they will gnaw through electrical cabling, plastic water pipe, and gas lines. Most of our emergency rat callouts are domestic and most are resolved on the first visit.
2. Wasp nest in a high-risk location
A wasp nest in an unused loft is not usually urgent. A wasp nest at the front door, in a child’s bedroom window frame, by a fire escape, or anywhere a person with an allergy lives is a same-day job. Wasps become aggressive when the nest is disturbed and a single allergic reaction can become a hospital admission.
3. Bed bugs in commercial accommodation
Hotels, B&Bs, holiday lets, short-term lets and HMOs cannot afford to wait when bed bugs are reported. The next guest is sometimes an hour away. We provide rapid bed bug treatments with heat or chemical methods, and where required we treat in unmarked vans without uniformed branding.
4. Cockroaches in a food business
A single cockroach spotted by a customer, an EHO or a staff member triggers an immediate response. Cockroaches breed rapidly and a sighting almost always means a wider colony nearby. We work to FSA-compliant treatment protocols and provide documentation suitable for EHO inspections.
5. Squirrels in a roof
Grey squirrels gnaw through joists, insulation and live cabling. Loft fires caused by squirrel-chewed wiring are well documented. People who hear scratching from the loft overhead usually want it dealt with the same day.
6. Birds nesting in unsafe locations
Pigeons and seagulls on a fire escape, around a public entrance, on solar panels, or fouling signage and walkways present genuine health and slip hazards. Where the bird is protected, we handle the legal aspects of removal alongside the practical work.
7. A colony of biting insects above a bed
Bees, wasps or hornets in a ceiling void directly above a bed is the textbook same-day callout. The risk of one finding its way through a light fitting or a crack in the plasterwork into the bedroom below is real.
8. Mice or flies in a healthcare or care setting
Care homes, dental practices, GP surgeries and hospital sites cannot have pest activity on the premises. CQC and equivalent inspectors will downgrade a site quickly on any visible evidence. We have a dedicated workflow for healthcare clients with full documentation.
How Our Emergency Response Works
Our emergency service is built around speed and certainty. When you call, here is what happens.
Triage on the call
The person picking up the phone is a trained team member who can scope the job in under two minutes. They will ask which pest, where in the property, how many, any vulnerable people, and whether the property is domestic or commercial. From those answers we work out whether it is genuinely same-day, can wait until tomorrow, or is something that can be slotted in next week.
Honest time windows
We will give you a one to two hour arrival window for same-day jobs. If a technician is already on a complex job and cannot get to you, we say so on the call rather than agreeing to a slot we cannot meet. Trust matters more than booking volume.
Locally based technicians
All our technicians live and work in the regions they cover. That is why our same-day response is realistic rather than aspirational. A typical Birmingham callout is reached by a technician already within ten or fifteen miles of the address.
Treatment plus written guarantee
Most domestic pest problems are treated on the first visit. Where the infestation needs a return visit (typical for bed bugs, fleas and some cockroach jobs), all follow-up appointments are booked before the technician leaves. A written guarantee is issued on standard treatments.
EHO and regulator documentation
Commercial clients receive proper paperwork suitable for Environmental Health, the FSA, CQC, Ofsted or equivalent inspectors. Records are kept on file and can be reissued at any time.
When We Are Open
Our emergency pest service is genuinely available outside normal working hours. Here is exactly when you can reach us.
- Every weekday, early in the morning through late in the evening
- Every Saturday, full day
- Every Sunday, full day
- Every bank holiday in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, with one exception
- Closed only on Christmas Day
That is more than 364 days of cover per year. The contrast with the wider industry is stark. Most pest control firms close at 5pm Friday and do not reopen until 9am Monday. The week between Christmas Eve and 2 January is, for much of the industry, a complete shutdown. Sundays are widely treated as a non-working day.
We have built our business on the opposite model because pest emergencies do not respect the calendar. A rat does not wait for Monday morning.

Commercial Emergency Pest Control
Commercial emergencies make up roughly half of our after-hours and weekend callout volume. Each sector has its own pattern.
Hotels and serviced accommodation
Bed bugs and cockroaches are the two pests that most commonly turn into emergencies. We can attend in unmarked vans, in plain clothes where requested, and treat rooms quickly enough to release them back to housekeeping within hours rather than days. Heat treatment for bed bugs is our most-requested option for commercial accommodation because it avoids chemical residues.
Restaurants, pubs and bars
A cockroach spotted by a customer, a mouse seen behind the bar, or flies on the prep line will close a kitchen down. We provide rapid response, EHO-compliant treatment records, and ongoing monthly contracts that prevent recurrence.
Food production and warehousing
BRC, SALSA and customer audits require documented pest control with rapid response to any sighting. We provide named-technician contracts plus emergency call-in.
Care homes and healthcare
Visible pest activity will downgrade a CQC rating. We attend out of busy clinical hours, work around residents, and provide full treatment records.
Property management and lettings
Tenant complaints about pests usually arrive out of hours. Letting agents can call us direct, give us tenant access details, and we will attend without needing to coordinate further.
Schools, nurseries and childcare
We treat outside teaching hours, complete the work overnight or at weekends where possible, and provide documentation suitable for Ofsted, ISI and equivalent inspectors.
What to Do Before We Arrive
While you wait for our technician, a few simple steps will make the visit faster and more effective.
If you have rats or mice
Move food into sealed containers, clear away any visible droppings with disposable gloves and a bleach solution, and try to identify where the noises or sightings are concentrated. Do not block any obvious holes yet, the technician needs to see them.
If you have wasps or bees
Stay well clear of the nest. Close any windows on that side of the property. Keep children and pets inside until the technician arrives. Do not attempt DIY removal, especially not with a vacuum cleaner or aerosol.
If you have bed bugs
Do not move bedding or belongings to another room, this just spreads the infestation. Leave the bed and surrounding area as they are so the technician can confirm the source. Wash any clothing from the affected room at sixty degrees if you can do so without moving it through the rest of the property.
If you have cockroaches
Do not spray over-the-counter insecticide, it will scatter the colony and make treatment harder. Identify the rough area of activity and clear the worktops so the technician has access to skirtings, plinths and behind appliances.
If you have squirrels in the loft
Keep the loft hatch closed and any rooms below the loft kept clear of valuables in case of disturbance during the work.
Why People Choose JG for Emergency Work
Three things define our emergency service.
Genuine availability
Open every day except Christmas Day. Open all weekends. Open all bank holidays except 25 December. Phones answered by real people. No call-handling outsourcer routing you back round the block.
Local technicians
Our team lives and works in the regions they cover, which is why a one to two hour response across our main coverage area is realistic. A technician sent to your address is generally already within driving distance, not dispatched from a depot a county away.
Honest pricing and transparent process
You get a quote on the call before any visit. Standard same-day callouts are at standard rates. Where a premium applies, it is stated up front. No surprise charges.
Frequently Asked Questions: Emergency Pest Control
How quickly can you actually get to me?
For same-day callouts across our main coverage area in England and Wales, a typical response is one to two hours from the booking call. Exact timing depends on technician location and current bookings, which we will tell you honestly when you ring.
What counts as a real pest emergency?
Rats in occupied living space, wasps in a high-risk location, bed bugs in a hotel room, cockroaches in a food business, biting insects above a bed, squirrels in a loft, and pigeons or seagulls causing a health and safety issue. If you are unsure, call us and describe the situation, we will tell you straight whether it warrants same-day attendance.
Do you work weekends and bank holidays?
Yes, every weekend and every UK bank holiday except Christmas Day. This includes the week between Christmas Eve and New Year, which is one of the most under-served weeks in the pest control calendar.
How much does an emergency callout cost?
We do not publish standard prices because emergency jobs vary enormously, from a single wasp nest to a full hotel-floor bed bug treatment. We quote on the call before any work, you know the price up front. For most jobs there is no premium for weekend or bank holiday attendance.
Are you available overnight?
Our phone lines are staffed from very early in the morning until very late in the evening, every day except Christmas Day. Genuine attendance in the middle of the night is possible in some commercial situations but uncommon, most pest emergencies are best dealt with at the start of our next staffed window, which is rarely more than a few hours away.
Can you come in an unmarked van?
Yes. For hotels, HMOs, serviced accommodation, healthcare settings and any client who wants discreet attendance, we use unmarked vehicles and plain clothes on request.
What qualifications do your technicians hold?
Every JG Pest Control technician is a BPCA Level 2 certified techniciannician. This is the recognised UK industry qualification for professional pest management.
If you are facing a pest control emergency, call JG now. Locally based BPCA Level 2 certified and trainee technicians, same-day callouts, and a real person on the phone every day of the year except Christmas Day.
