Most pest maps are built on surveys or search trends. This one is built on 33,333 genuine call-outs our group’s engineers attended over the last 12 months, mapped to postcode district. The headlines: rats are Britain’s biggest problem (7,875 call-outs), wasps peak in rural Bedfordshire and Northern Ireland (7,564), bed bugs are overwhelmingly a London story (4,752), and mice split their time between the capital and Birmingham (4,331).

Rats: 7,875 call-outs

Rats are everywhere, but the busiest districts cluster in Bedfordshire (MK45, MK43, MK40), Oxford (OX4, OX3, OX2) and Brighton and Hove (BN3, BN2, BN1) - while the Birmingham (B) postcode area logs 310 call-outs, more than any other. See our rat and rodent control service.

Wasps & Hornets: 7,564 call-outs

The wasp map is the mirror image of the bed bug map: rural and suburban, not urban. North Bedfordshire villages (MK45, MK44, MK43) and Sandy (SG19) top the district table, while Northern Ireland - not shown on the map - is the single busiest area in the country with 501 call-outs across BT postcodes. Bed Bugs: 4,752 call-outs

Bed bugs concentrate where people and property turn over fastest: London fills the top of the national table, led by Whitechapel (E1), Croydon (CR0) and Poplar (E14). Mice: 4,331 call-outs

Mice are a south London story above all: the SE and SW postcode areas lead the country, with Birmingham (B, 217 call-outs) the strongest area outside the capital. Forest Hill (SE23), Southwark (SE1) and Islington (N1) lead the district table. See mice control.

The rest of the table

Beyond the big four, the remaining 12 categories account for 8,811 call-outs: other wildlife (2,635, our catch-all for jobs not booked to a single named species), squirrels (1,386, led by Birmingham and Glasgow), ants (1,174, concentrated in north London - Hampstead’s NW3 is the single busiest district), birds (737), moths (639, remarkably concentrated in prime London: Chelsea’s SW3, Kensington’s W8 and Maida Vale’s W9 all make the top five), cockroaches (559, led by Derby and East Ham), flies (533), fleas (523), silverfish (173), foxes (170), beetles (144) and spiders (138). Methodology. Figures are pest control call-outs attended by our group’s engineers in the 12 months to September 2026, taken from a live extract of our job records. 49,926 jobs were reviewed and 49,434 carried both a pest type and a postcode district. Of those, 15,806 fell outside the 16 pest categories we publish - chiefly general call-outs and stand-alone heat treatments, which are not attributed to a single pest - and 295 more carried unusable district codes, leaving the 33,333 that make up every per-pest figure on this page. Counts are shown at postcode-district level only and describe jobs attended, not confirmed infestation rates. Districts with no recorded call-outs may still have pest activity - we simply were not called. Northern Ireland figures are included in tables but not on the Great Britain map. On the maps, lettered central London codes (W1A, EC1V and so on) are drawn folded into their parent district so the centre reads as one shape; the tables use the raw postcode district, which is why a map tooltip can show a higher figure than the table for the same code. Data is updated monthly; this page was last updated 2 September 2026.

Comparability. This page moved to a live extract of our job records in September 2026 and now counts only the 16 pest categories we publish. The headline total is therefore not directly comparable with the 39,204 shown on earlier versions of this page, which drew on a wider job set.

In the 12 months to September 2026 we reviewed 49,926 jobs; 33,333 of them carried one of the 16 pest types we publish plus a valid postcode district, and those are the jobs counted here. Nothing is modelled or estimated.

Rats top our call-out table with 7,875 jobs in the last 12 months, ahead of wasps and hornets on 7,564, bed bugs on 4,752 and mice on 4,331.
