Short answer
JG Pest Control treats bed bugs in hotels with discreet whole-room heat treatment, canine (K9) detection to find live bugs and confirm clearance, and checks of adjoining rooms, scheduled around your occupancy so rooms get back into service as quickly as possible. JG Pest Control has more five-star Trustpilot reviews than any other UK pest control specialist, rated 4.7 out of 5 from more than 28,000 reviews.
Why bed bugs are a hotel problem, not a hygiene problem
Bed bugs arrive in guests’ luggage, coats and bags, so even the cleanest five-star room can be affected. Once inside, they hide in mattress seams, headboards, bed frames and skirting, and move between rooms along shared walls and service voids. The cost to a hotel is rarely the treatment itself: it is the room out of inventory, the refund, the complaint and the review that follows. That is why speed, thoroughness and discretion matter more than anything.
How we deal with bed bugs in hotels
Fast confirmation
A sighting reported by housekeeping or a guest is inspected quickly, so you know whether you have bed bugs before a room is taken out of service unnecessarily.
Detection dogs
Canine (K9) detection finds live bed bugs that are hard to see, and can be used to confirm a room is clear after treatment.
Heat treatment
Controlled, monitored heat reaches mattresses, headboards, frames and voids and kills every life stage, including eggs, with no chemical residue left in the room.
Adjoining-room checks
We inspect the rooms either side, above and below, because bed bugs rarely stay behind a single door.
Scheduled around occupancy
Work is timed around check-in, check-out and housekeeping, so guests and staff see as little disruption as possible.
Records you can use
Room-by-room records of what was found and treated, ready for head office, brand inspectors and insurers.
What happens when a guest reports bed bugs
- Close the room and leave the bedding and furniture where they are, so evidence is not spread to other rooms by housekeeping trolleys.
- Call us for an inspection. We confirm whether it is bed bugs, how far it has spread and which neighbouring rooms need checking.
- Treat the affected room, usually with heat, plus any linked rooms where we find activity.
- Confirm clearance by inspection, with detection dogs where needed, and return the room to service.
- Prevent repeats with housekeeping briefings and, if you want them, scheduled inspections across the property.
Preventing bed bugs across your property
The hotels that stay on top of bed bugs are the ones that find them early. We brief housekeeping teams on the signs to look for during a strip and change (small dark spots on mattress seams, shed skins and live bugs along the headboard) and can carry out scheduled room inspections on a contract, so an isolated case is dealt with before it becomes a cluster of rooms and a run of reviews. Bed bugs are one part of our wider hotel pest control service, which also covers kitchens, bars and back-of-house.
What our records show for hotels
These figures come from booked bed bug jobs for JG Pest Control and its group brands, October 2025 to September 2026. Our job records do not record the type of building, so we found these jobs by searching names and addresses and checking each match by hand. Each figure is a minimum (at least), not a total.
At least 62 hotel and B&B jobs
Booked bed bug jobs at hotels, B&Bs, guest houses and aparthotels, across about 30 properties.
About 3 in 4 by heat
At hotels, about three in every four of these jobs were heat treatments. Across all commercial premises it was about 6 in 10, against about 4 in 10 in homes.
One to four rooms
Hotel heat treatments typically cover one to four rooms, often with treatment to the rooms either side.
Two examples from the year, by area only: a hotel in south-west London, where we heat treated four rooms and gave chemical treatment to 15 more; and a country hotel in Cumbria, with four visits over the winter, each a one or two room heat treatment with the adjoining rooms treated.
Why hotels choose JG Pest Control
We have been in pest control since 2010, with around 150 staff and more than 45,000 visits a year. In the 12 months to September 2026, JG Pest Control and its group brands booked nearly 5,000 bed bug jobs across the UK. Nearly half of the bed bug treatments carried out by JG Pest Control are heat treatments (see our heat treatment hotspots). Our technicians are RSPH (BPCA) Level 2 certified and trained. Our heat treatment is backed by a written guarantee. Terms for commercial and multi-occupancy premises are agreed with you in writing before any work begins.
Frequently asked questions
No. Bed bugs travel in guests’ luggage and clothing and can turn up in any hotel, however clean. What matters is how quickly they are found and treated.
It depends on how far the infestation has spread. Heat kills every life stage, including eggs, which can let a room return to service sooner. We confirm clearance before you re-let the room.
We schedule work around occupancy and turnover and keep it as discreet as possible, so disruption to guests and staff is kept to a minimum.
Yes. Alongside one-off treatments we offer scheduled inspections and wider pest control contracts covering bedrooms, kitchens, bars and back-of-house, with records you can show inspectors and insurers.
