You may have seen the story in the news about the gas engineer who found “Britain’s largest rat”.

A brown rat indoors beside food
Rats gnaw cabling and contaminate food stores.

The rat is rumoured to be a massive 4ft long. It is a big old rat, no question, but it is categorically nowhere near that size. We would put it at around 2ft head to tail, which is large, but nothing out of the ordinary.

I am not the first to say the photo is all about the camera angle, and probably not the first to point out that holding a genuine 4ft rat at arm’s length would take Arnold Schwarzenegger or Incredible Hulk muscles to keep it steady while the photographer does his business.

Anyway, I found this bloody huge plastic mouse in my office. You can see from the photo that it is about 2ft long. Wow!

Huge plastic mouse

Oh, wait. The camera angle. It is actually about 11cm. Silly me.
